Mean Girls (January 12)
This film is based on the musical version of Mean Girls. Expect catchy song and dance numbers, mixed with comedy and – of course – a generous helping of teenage drama.
Like the first film, the new Mean Girls is also created by comedian Tina Fey, who reprises her role as Miss Norbury. Other roles include Angourie Rice as Cady Heron and Reneé Rapp as Regina George.
Argylle (February 2)
If you love lighthearted spy movies, this is the movie for you! Argylle is about introverted writer Elly Conway (played by Bryce Dallas Howard), whose life suddenly begins to resemble one of her spy novels. Other roles include Catherine O’Hara, Henry Cavill, and Dua Lipa.
It Ends With Us (release date undecided)
This year is finally the premiere of the long-awaited film adaptation of the novel It Ends With Us. The plot revolves around Lily, who tries to sort out her feelings for two very different men. It is still unclear when the film premieres in Sweden, but it premieres in the United States in February.
Dune: Part 2 (February 28)
The plot of Dune: Part 2 picks up where the first film left off. Timothée Chalamet once again portrays Paul Atreides, who together with Chani (Zendaya) tries to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict. Other roles include Austin Butler and Florence Pugh.
Inside Out 2 (June 14)
In the sequel to Pixar’s acclaimed film Inside Out (2015), we return to the mind of newly-emerged teenager Jenny, where the headquarters undergoes a sudden renovation to make room for something completely unexpected: new emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who have proven to run a successful business for a long time, do not know how to react when Anxiety appears. Also, she doesn’t seem to come alone.
Just like in the first film, Amy Poehler voices Joy, while Maya Hawke portrays Anxiety.
Joker: Folie a Deux (release date undecided)
In this sequel to Joker (2019), we see how psychiatrist Harley Quinn takes on the task of treating the Joker but instead develops an unhealthy relationship with him. For anyone who loved the first film, this is a must – not least as Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Arthur Fleck, is joined by Lady Gaga in the role of Harley Quinn.
At present, it is not known when Joker: Folie a Deux will premiere in Sweden, but the film will premiere in the United States in October.
Wicked Part 1 (November 27)
Anticipation is high for the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked, and in late 2024, part one will finally premiere! The star-studded ensemble includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Jonathan Bailey ( The Bridgerton Family ) as Fiyero.
