Sunny California is known for its stunning beaches that look nothing short of spectacular. Living next to one of these Californian beaches is the dream of almost every person but not one that many can achieve.
Manhattan Beach is such a Californian beach that inspired the creation of the Manhattan Beach Residence by SUBU Design Architecture.
SUBU have collaborated with Waterleaf Interiors to create the ultimate summer retreat on this Californian beach. This project aims to create a house that is perfect for year-round indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
This three-story residence is just as fabulous on the outside as it is in the inside. But the best part of it is that it allows its residents to take advantage of the prestige location during all seasons. There are sumptuous outdoor areas as well as a beautiful swimming pool that simply invites you to jump inside.
The interior and outdoor areas are connected with sliding glass doors located in the main living areas. They not only extend the interior to the outside but they also help to bring sunlight inside to paint the stellar interior design with natural light.
10th St Residence is a remodel addition to an existing 4,402 s.f. house that was originally constructed in contemporary Santa Fe Style with purple and yellow stucco. The clients came to us wanting to add a clean modern glass box for the 2nd floor master bedroom, better connection to the outdoors, and blur the line between formal and informal spaces.
We proposed to create an inverted oasis borrowing from the Japanese concept of Tokonoma. We created a series of view spaces to anchor each major room. Rather than simply opening up the rooms to the exterior, we introduced the concept of internal landscape. We achieved this by framing a flowering tree in a neighbor’s yard, by setting a green foreground on a roof deck to the city view, and by creating an indoor green wall sculpture that anchors your entrance into the master suite.
