People gather to remember family members and friends who have died. Since the holiday falls on Halloween, some people paint their faces, wear costumes representing Catrina, the skeleton of a wealthy Mexican woman seen in a print by José Guadalupe Posada, are popular.

Maleficent: Official Disney Villain

Maleficent, a popular Halloween costume, is the villain in Disney’s 1959 animated film “Sleeping Beauty.” Angered that she was not invited to the christening of Princess Aurora, Maleficent cursed Aurora, noting she would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel on her sixteenth birthday and die. A fairy weakened the curse, saying Aurora would fall into a deep sleep until awakened by the kiss of a prince. A live action film version of “Sleeping Beauty,” starring Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, opened in May 2014. Called “Maleficent,” Disney tells the story from Maleficent’s perspective instead of Aurora’s.

Catwoman: DC Comics Villain

Catwoman is a fictional character who first appeared in DC Comics “Batman #1” comic book in Spring 1940. Actresses Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether, and Julie Newmar portrayed Catwoman in the Batman television series in the 1960s. Michelle Pfeiffer had the role of Catwoman in the 1992 film “Batman Returns.” The costume is popular due to its slinky, form-fitting look.

Zombies are fictional characters that are depicted in horror movies as mindless reanimated corpses looking for human flesh. This is a popular Halloween costume that is simple and inexpensive to make. Wear some tattered clothes and apply make up to give the appearance of rotting flesh. Also, don’t forget to practice you zombie walk.

Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held in Munich, Germany every year. This Bavarian festival celebrating German culture is generally held during the last week of September and the first week of October. Other German cities and many cities throughout the world hold their own annual versions of Oktoberfest. A lot of people wear traditional German costumes on the evenings they spend drinking German beer, eating German food, singing, and dancing. They also wear their costumes to Halloween parties.
