5 Steps to Creating a Relaxing Master Bedroom

For many, the master bedroom is the one room in the house where you can escape from day to day life. A cozy personal retreat that is inviting as well as children free. If your master isn’t giving you the look and feel that you want from it, it might be a good idea to review what needs to be added and what may need to be adapted to create the welcoming space you desire. Here are 5 steps to creating a relaxing master bedroom.

Decoration

If the décor isn’t right, then you can probably forget the whole thing. Your master bedroom should be finished with color and décor that make you feel relaxed. There are many color palettes that you can use to achieve this. If you are not sure which shades go together, there are websites that can help.

It’s a good idea to have a feature wall in your room, so consider having one wall papered and the others painted in complementary tones. Collect samples of wallpaper from local stores or order swatches online until you find the one that suits your taste.

Window dressings and accessories

Window dressings can change the look of a master bedroom quite drastically. Curtains made from heavy velvet, for example, will create a warm, luxurious feel. Simple white bedding adorned with a range of cushions and throws of different textures, colors, and sizes can complete a look. Many people wonder what the point is of adding lots of accessories that are only there for show. The answer is, you are staging the room. The things you add and the overall finished look, are created to stimulate your senses. A room that feels empty and cold is likely to make you feel that way too. A room that feels warm and peaceful will bring a feeling of calm.

Lighting

Lighting is important in any room. Where possible, add dimmer switches to your main lights. Bright or stark lighting will make a room feel uncoordinated and unwelcoming. Add night lights with low wattage, warm white bulbs to either side of your bed, and use them most often. They will create enough light for you to read but will also be soft enough for you to keep on should you wish to take a nap.

Flooring

Whilst may people like wooden flooring, a carpet may create a more relaxing feel in your bedroom. When you get up in the morning, there are few things nicer than stepping onto a deep pile carpet. If you do prefer flooring, then consider adding a nice large rug.

Relax your mind

It is all good and well having a relaxing bedroom, but if your mind is in overdrive, it’s unlikely to give the desired effect. If you do feel particularly stressed or wound up, try meditating or listening to ASMR podcasts to help you relax. Reading feel good stories is another great way to make you feel calm, inspired and promote a positive mindset.
