The back yard is one of the most important places in the home. It’s where we get to relax, unwind and enjoy the company of our family and friends, and all under the great outdoors and the great open sky. Sadly though, the backyard can sometimes fall into a bit of disrepair, owing to the fact that we all lead busy lives and don’t often have the time to take care of it – beyond mowing the grass on a Sunday, that is. If you’ve been looking out to your backyard and wondering why you don’t really want to spend as much time out there lately, then think about getting your backyard a facelift or a makeover and see your backyard transform into a haven once again! It’s not hard, and it can be something fun for the whole family. This is an easy guide designed to make giving your backyard a facelift an easy process!

Step One
Give some thought to how you are going to be using your outdoors: do you see yourself using your yard to hold barbecues, to garden, to unwind and get away from it all, or to enjoy time with your kids and your pets? Lots of people are going to be using the backyard for lots of different things, so is there a way for you to have it all? Of course, but to get this multifunctional space you’ll have to get used to the idea of outdoor living spaces! This concept basically refers to the idea of separating the backyard in the same way that you would separate the house into rooms! You want an area that is designed for quiet, an area that is designed for running and playing, and an area that is designed for entertaining eating and enjoying the sun with your mates! Once you have this plan in mind it will be easy to move forward from here, and make your backyard look amazing in no time!

Step Two
If you don’t have a deck in your house then you should consider building one! Decks are awesome! Plus, they are a great addition to any entertaining area and can often be done cheaply with timber offcuts and some help from some willing mates. You need to think about what you’re going to be using it for, and you need to think about how much space you’ll have left once it’s built. Once you’ve thought about it, then build accordingly, but make sure you get the help of someone who knows what they’re doing – but sure, save money by doing some of it yourself! Step Three
Why not – if you’re a big food lover – consider putting in an outdoor kitchen? If you love hosting barbecues and do it all the time, then it will be money well spent for you and your family! It’s not so hard to create an outdoor kitchen, and all you need to do for this is to take your existing deck (or the deck that you’re going to build) and then add some sort of cover which you can use to shade and protect your new outdoor kitchen space. Add in a barbecue station and a dishwasher if you’re fancy/lazy and you’ll be good to go for summer or winter.
